You've bought a camper or motorhome and now you want to travel the world.
Everything is packed, you sit down in your new vehicle and off you go. But wait a minute. Where to in the first place?
Campsite or Freestanding?
We recommend that you think about where you want to go besides your destination country in advance.
First of all, there is the question of where you want to stay. Do you prefer a campsite with showers, electricity and many other campers or do you prefer the open air with lots of nature, but also without electricity from the socket, without shower and toilet?
With such things you should be able to provide yourself in the best case.
Search on paper or on the phone?
Would you rather have something tangible and search for campsites in a camping guide or do you find an app more practical?
Especially campsites can be found very well in the camping guide, if you prefer this format.
For example, there is the "Camping Guide by ACSI", the "ADAC Camping Guide Germany/Europe" or the "Landvergnügen Deutschland: Der andere Stellplatzführer Saison 2020".
If your Internet should fail completely, such a camping guide can be very helpful, especially if you like to visit campsites.
Alternatively, there are numerous apps available. The app "park4night" stands out in particular, because in addition to classic campsites, it also makes places for free standing visible.
These are found and marked by campers for campers. If you find a new site, you can register it there. But the app has much more to offer.
You can find private pitches (pitches offered by private persons), which we can recommend from our own experience. There you usually have electricity and shower, but there are often only 1-2 pitches available, which on the other hand grants a lot of privacy. But also things of daily use in the camper like laundromats, gas filling stations, picnic areas and much more.
In addition to the picture to the pitch, you can see directly from the reviews of users, how the pitch looks and whether it is worth a trip.
Furthermore, the ADAC and ACSI also offer an app. Here you can find the classic campsites just like in the paper format.
One more way
You can use Google Maps to check via satellite view whether you can stand free at your desired location. Here you can explore the area directly at the same time.
In addition, if you enter "...nearby", you can actually search for almost everything you need for everyday use.

Absolutely avoid!
You are already a few hours on the road with your camper or motorhome and just want to sleep?
We can understand that, but avoid sleeping at rest areas. Especially in France, organized gangs use the night to rob campers and motorhomes there.
Especially the driver's cabin, when everyone is sleeping in the back, is a very popular target for thieves. But we also advise to avoid big cities and metropolitan areas.
If you are in a big city like Barcelona, we recommend that you always look for a guarded parking space.
As a last tip we would like to give you to listen to your feeling, no matter at what time you arrive at a parking space.
If you have a bad feeling, take a look at one of the apps or Google Maps and drive a few kilometers further.
Otherwise, we wish you a good trip and are curious which one is your favorite on your journey. One thing is for sure, you will surely meet exciting, great places and people.
